The definition of significant delay is not uniform.
It could be three hours at XYZ airline.
It could be four hours at another airline.
It's up to the airlines at this point.
The significant delay only comes in if you want a refund.
This is not some kind of little cash prize.
This is if you want a refund.
So you don't just get a refund when they canceled the flight.
You don't get a refund just in that case.
You also could be sitting at the airport and say,
okay, it's a six-hour delay.
I'm going to get in too late tonight.
I'm not going to Florida for the weekend.
In that case, you are eligible for a refund even on a non-refundable ticket because the delay was significant.
It's now going to be uniform starting this fall.
So for a domestic flight, if the delay is three hours or greater, or an international flight, six hours or greater,
You are then eligible for a refund if you choose it, regardless of what kind of ticket you bought.
The new rules that come into effect later this year, if your bag is delayed in getting to you by 12 hours or more from arrival for domestic flight and 15 to 30 hours for international flights, depending how long that flight is, you get your bag fees refunded.
And as we know, bag fees are no small change.
They've been going up.
