But, you know, the virus is still continuing to spread.
You know, officials say that they still don't even know the true scale of the outbreak, even at this point.
That's right.
Absolutely.
You had this little boy in the corner with his father.
His father was just wearing a pair of rubber gloves, no protective equipment.
I mean, we went in with full protective equipment.
The doctor who brought us in was protected, but everybody else in that ward was protected.
basically completely unprotected.
And because this hospital didn't even have the resources to give people meals, their own, the relatives of sick people were in these wards and they were just coming and going, walking in and out, you know, potentially, of course, you know, contracting the disease in there and then carrying it out again.
And
as well as funerals, particularly in the early stages of the outbreak, hospitals become what they call a major vector for spreading the disease because as these hospitals are completely under-resourced and underfunded, they're struggling to battle this tide of disease.
They become places not only where people are treated, but also where the disease passes from one to another.

The problem is that they still don't really have a good handle on how many people have contracted the disease.
So far, there are about 500 confirmed deaths and 1,600 confirmed cases.
But the World Health Organization says that the true scale is still not known.
And all the evidence suggests that it is continuing to spread, not just in this province where I was, Ituri, but also in several neighboring provinces.
And that's really the worry that, you know, if it keeps going along this trajectory, you could see the numbers sort of increase on an exponential stage as it keeps going.
