In the past weeks, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pressed for a diplomatic solution and offered to facilitate talks between the U.S.

and Iran.

Ankara is trying to carve out a careful balance between its partner in NATO, the United States, and Iran, its neighbor to the east.
