So I started at the beginning of 2011 and my buddy, Jim, who sat next to me, he was the PR guy assigned to manage this film, which Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson were making, set at Google, the internship.
And it was actually like, it was like a rom-com set at Google.
Because you could pull off that kind of warm, fuzzy shtick and people would go and see it.
Because it was like, oh, Google, it's this warm, fuzzy company where everyone sits on colored balls and events the future.
Yeah.
And they have the food and everyone chills and there's no real offices.
And it's just, yeah.
Totally.
And like Steve Jobs was still alive.
The iPhone had just been announced 2007.
So it was like very recent.
Facebook wasn't even a public company yet.
And after I was working at Google the first time, I was working for Eric Schmidt, who was the executive chairman then.
I then went to work for Zuckerberg.
I went over to Facebook right before the IPO, and it was a tiny, tiny company.
It was less than 2,000 employees.
It was only a few years past the point where everyone was just hurriedly adding all your friends as soon as Facebook extended to your college.
And yeah, at the time it was just sort of, we're making it up as we go, but it still feels like the early years of the internet when, you know, every day was a new discovery and things were deeply hopeful in a lot of ways.
You felt like you were part of inventing this amazing future.
Yeah.
