But even like two to three weeks before that, you started seeing defenses picking up on some of their tendencies in terms of what they liked in the passing game, in terms of what they like to do at a certain personnel groupings in the run game.
And ultimately they still turned out to be a really excellent offense because they can just lean on their favorites because they have talent all over this roster.
And now if you add DJ Moore and you get a DJ Moore who's motivated and
who is, I think, in an understandable role where he doesn't necessarily have to be some 150 targets guy.
He can be a manufactured explosives.
He can be a
catch on the run in the minute intermediate area type of receiver he can be a screen game guy right like you can just fold him into all the same things you've been doing with your tight ends and with Khalil Shakir this entire way and now you're just going to a bigger receiver who has a little bit more wiggle in the open field and this offense can just I guess just add another dynamic piece to what it already does I don't know that they needed to change anything I think they just needed a player like Moore to maybe be able to unlock some things when defenses load up the box to take away the run game
Especially that franchise.
That franchise has experienced the heartbreaks of all heartbreaks in their history.
Yeah, I think for me, I took this exercise all the way down to the end this morning before we hopped on the podcast, and I just kept toggling between Buffalo being one, Los Angeles being two, and then vice versa.
And eventually, I just kind of got to a point where I'm like, this offense is awesome.
Nitpicking is for losers at this level, right?
Instead of trying to find all of the trap doors for this team,
Let's just take what we've seen on film.
And a lot of this really is based on the fact that Sean McVay and the Rams have built an offensive infrastructure that doesn't really ask Matthew Stafford to have to do what he did in 2021 for this to be a top five offense in the NFL.
In truth, I mean, they very rarely need him to play at that level.
I would say that last year, the only times I really call it
for it were those three games against the Seahawks and in the last two of them he played exactly like we saw 2021 Matthew Stafford played and I think that that's a large reason why I ended up winning MVP is because those memories stuck out that Thursday night game and then in the NFC championship even though that was after the voting I think you just think about those moments right when it's called upon at most when he needed to deliver you know in the biggest moments for the Rams he was able to do so and then you look at just some of the more underlying metrics right like
By name recognition, maybe by volume, and some of the other things that we look at, maybe by box score, we don't always appreciate just how effective the Rams are in the run game.
But you go and you look at success rate, especially on early downs.
