I don't think you're being an alarmist, but I will say that this Andrew Jones situation is the stuff that dreams are made of if you're a sports agent.
From a leverage perspective, you dream of being in these situations.
You have this team 100% over the barrel.
And while you don't want your client to have ever suffered an Achilles injury, if there was ever a time to do it, it's as you're hitting the market and the team is totally bought in to this being the core that is supposed to get them a deep playoff run.
They were evening out, but like you said, you didn't get the dip, right?
It would be one thing if he finishes the season out and maybe he's kind of trending downward and that kind of depresses his value out in the market and maybe you're able to bring him in at a more reasonable number.
But if I'm Daniel Jones, the Colts can say whatever they want to say.
The franchise tag number is where this negotiation is starting.
And then how far down you want this to go is going to depend on how many years you want to tack on to this deal.
That's really kind of where I'm at.
At least if I was negotiating on the player's behalf, right?
I think if you're the Colts, you probably look at like Geno Smith's deal.
It's about $38 million per year.
And you say, okay, this is our ceiling.
We'll give you two years of real money on that deal, right?
