The Blue Lady murder case developed as a result of the knifing of Danny Claxton, whose reign as racket king has been challenged by a glamorous woman known as the Lady in Blue.

As Vance had anticipated, there were no fingerprints on the knife.

Suspects include the lady, her favorite gunman, Tony, and a disbarred lawyer named Smythe who might well inherit Claxton's racket empire with him dead.

Vance found some sort of clue in Claxton's darkened apartment after I'd asked him there,
