Adding to Pakistan's concerns that Taliban are also strengthening their relations with India, Pakistan's chief rival.
The fighting included Pakistani strikes on Saturday in Afghanistan's eastern Paktika province, targeting a militant group.
But Afghan officials said the strikes killed civilians, including three local cricketers who'd been playing a match nearby.
Cricket's global governing body, the International Cricket Council, said it was saddened and appalled by the deaths of the three men.

the request came after a Dreamliner abruptly deployed an emergency power system mid-air during an Air India flight to Britain.
The device would normally be activated when an aircraft's engines lose power or its hydraulic systems register critically low pressure or its electrical systems fail.
But the Federation of Indian Pilots says the emergency power system was engaged unexpectedly.
Air India told AP that an initial inspection found that all electrical and hydraulic parameters were normal and that the aircraft landed safely.
In June, a Dreamliner bound for London crashed in the Indian city of Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff, killing 260 people.
The cause is still under investigation.

Barbie Reynolds, seventy five years old, and her husband Peter, eighty years old, had been held without charge since February.
The Reynolds children said their parents were mistreated in detention.
They said their mother was only fed one meal a day, and their father was shackled and chained.
