The Home Office is looking at this in purely policy terms of this being a lever to try and push migration down.

But there is an inevitable, effectively a a a soft moral question there for any government about whether or not it's an appropriate and fair way to treat people who have settled in the UK.

If their life is genuinely here and they want to settle and they're being productive.

and and and contributing, uh, you know, why would you want to delay those people settling?

I mean, there's also potential economic costs, partif particularly for people who are highly mobile from there are certain countries of the world where people are highly mobile.

Lots of people from India who have qualifications make very conscious choices about do I come to the UK to study and work and potentially settle?

Or do I, for instance, go to Canada?

And they are literally making those choices day and day saying, Do I take my skills there?

Those are skills which may be in demand.

So there's quite a complex fairness and economic argument there.

And there there there there have been whispers that the government may roll back from that.

The difficulty, the political difficulty I think, for the government in doing that is it then potentially becomes an opportunity for the government to be bashed.

We are in an era, a really, really historic era of global churn of people.
