These teams are good, and it makes for a nice rivalry culture for the whole season, which is fun.
Well, playing for Fred Kona, first of all, you're going to laugh a lot.
He's a practical jokester, and he keeps everything loose.
He basically had one fundamental rule.
It's like, you got to play hard.
Play hard, best effort, and he'll work with you on physical mistakes that come.
He just wants you to play hard and keep your head in the game.
But he's a maximizer.
He just gets the most because he's so authentic.
He's so consistent every day.
And he's just beloved because he's just funny, keeps it loose.
At the same time, he's very committed.
He's in the locker room many, many hours before the game just preparing.
I remember I talked to him before this season, before he took the job with the Reds, and he spent a lot of time just worrying about what is this opening speech going to be like?
He really wanted to make sure he had the right words to change the culture of a team when you're starting off as a manager.
So he thinks about a lot of things along those lines.
So, I mean, I had a blast.
I was a young player.
in the sense of just early core years of the Phillies.
And we weren't necessarily very good.
