where they're using water lilies to gauge water purity, which is something we know the Maya did iconographically.

Water gets tied in with rulership, and often also the underworld is this watery place.

So you have all of this mix of different elements suggesting water is really key and important.

You're also getting a lot of consumption of marine fish here too, based on the dietary evidence.

So there's active trade routes to the coast where they're getting marine fish, even though we're nowhere near the coast.

they also would have, at the same time, mixed in this water system of reservoirs and, you know, water for consumption with the agricultural terraces, which are serving as this earthen reservoir for their plants.

So when it rains, the water flows over the terrace and it seeps into the soil, and it's designed to be the right depth for all the crops they want to grow.

And then the water is flowing along the bedrock layer at the bottom of the soil.

So it's going from terrace to terrace down the system.

Nothing wasted.

So actually there's a really good example just over there.

And basically it's the ancient community center at Karkol and it predates everything we just talked about with Kana.

It's this early building, this really long elongated Eastern building, which is built up and remodeled about every 200 years.

And then a big Western structure.

It's something that helps control the calendar and put it together.

The ritual lunar and the more standard sort of annual solar calendar.

And so the Maya, when they're giving you their texts, the first few glyphs are all just telling you a date within that calendric system.

Maya calendars.

So this would be good if I could actually reference exactly when it is, but it's sometime like around 3114 BC, I think.

And then that date cycled around again.
