is that while Odysseus is the only witness to these places and the things that he claims have happened there, really there's always this doubt left in the end about how much of what Odysseus tells us is actually true.
So we as modern readers can't really tell in the end, but also ancient readers weren't quite sure about that, argued that in fact Odysseus had made all of this up, essentially.

What I really like about it is that, unlike the Emily Wilson translation or others, which are in their own way very good, it really tries to reflect not just the language of Homer, but also the nature of it.
