Two people held at the Federal Immigration Detention Center have been quarantined for measles, DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

She said federal officials have halted all movement within the center and they're quarantining anyone exposed.

Dr. Catherine Peeler of Harvard says a 2016 study of an ICE facility found measles can spread quickly in a crowded center.

even with high overall levels of immunity.

And as vaccination rates decline, she says the risks of measles outbreaks grows.

I'm very concerned that we're going to see higher rates of measles outbreaks, the same way that we saw a lot of, we saw very high rates of COVID, both in adult detention centers as well as family detention centers.
