And it's funny that that pornography conversation, you know,
was kind of rumbling in the background until Netflix bring out something like Adolescence, and then it becomes a national conversation.
And you get frustrated because you're kind of thinking, I've been saying this for years, and why aren't people listening to me?
And there's many times where I feel like I'm pushing at a locked door or whatever that expression is, and it's not making a difference.
The technology will always give you something else.
Like when I did my PhD, I was looking at Facebook.
So what I did was I set up a Facebook page and I looked at 120 profiles of 18 to 25 year olds.
And I looked for the five most prolific sharers.
And I interviewed each of them to find out what was their motivation to share.
Like, why did you share that picture of your dinner?
What was the experience of it?
And what was the function of it for them?
And what I found in that study was these people weren't announcing themselves.
They were trying to find themselves.
What they looked like from their hoped-for self online was so different to what their actual self was offline.
a mechanism for low self-worth rather than something that was used with bravado or genuine bravado.
Yeah, I remember when I was collecting around that time, I remember one young person was involved in the marriage equality referendum and everything was marriage equality.
