Finn O'Toole has really shown his colours these days, hasn't he?

But like, you know, but like even Finn O'Toole can write an article thrown out there that Ireland has the highest homeownership in the universe, you know, and so forth.
It's been falling since 1991 and it's been falling for the same reason why it's now falling in kind of Central Europe.
What Ireland did was that Ireland privatized its public housing stock in urban areas from 1966 onwards.
So what it did was that it sold off
The large bulk of that kind of housing stock, that had peaked in 1991, where 81% of all housing in Ireland was privately owned.
Now it's around 65%.
But it's dropping for the very same reason why it's dropping in central Europe, because after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the central European states also sold off their housing stock.
Now, they had more of it.
So, theirs is in the 90% or so.
But that's a once-off thing.
That's a once-off.
That's what you do.
If you're going to stop building public housing, which is pretty much what the state has done.
So we are in this kind of universe now where rental is probably part of the Hogan Inkey system.
But what they've done is that they've, instead of having that in terms of state-run kind of rental, they haven't even privatized rental.
They've turned it into an asset class for transnational capital.
