So I was thinking about sports medicine.
I really liked exercise physiology.
And eventually I went to pursue a master's degree
in exercise physiology from florida state so i moved from california all the way across the country went to florida state had an amazing time i studied so hard and had so much fun national championship national champion football team at the time so that had like great energy in tallahassee and i just learned at this point in my education i was hitting my stride i think academically
and was getting really good at learning better than ever before.
And so that was fun.
And yeah, and then my career, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do.
I thought about going to medical school.
I actually was invited to take gross anatomy with the medical students.
So they invited like a couple of like the top performers in the exercise physiology department to do that.
And so I really loved that whole community and group.
And so I thought about that.
But it didn't quite feel right because I think I have great respect for medicine, but my interest was more on like the performance and health and wellness side.
And what I realized at that time, but I couldn't articulate as well as I can now, is there really wasn't a career track for me.
in exactly the way that I wanted it to.
And it's actually led to some recent talks that I've given about how scientific wellness needs to become more of an official track in our healthcare system.
So for instance, we imagine a position equivalent to your primary care doctor that I call the HPE, the health performance expert.
And this person would be like a coach
And their job would be to, or their training would have them be educated in all the determinants of health, not just nutrition or not just exercise, but nutrition, sleep, stress management, everything that actually matters to the health of the body.
It would be a generalist training, kind of like your primary care doc is, right?
