a need you know to like protect yourself especially as like the international system starts to develop it's like we have to declare ourselves a nation and like argue for our people's rights otherwise we won't be uh you know kind of legible on the international stage we've got to you know move in this direction obviously there are lots of ills that come from that but we'll get to that i'm sure
They needed the economic opportunity that this very thriving city represented.
And actually that's like the basis of a lot of the tensions between them and the Palestinians is the, I mean, you already mentioned kind of the labor aspect of it is like,
They were extremely exclusionary, and they were trying to use these economic opportunities in a very kind of directed way.
So they were rubbing up against a lot of issues.
