And so it's adaptive to pair bond, which is why humans have really high rates of pair bonding compared to other species.

So we do see that dad's predilection to care give, again, can turn that dial up or down depending on the stability of their relationship with the baby's mother.

And we know that as humans, we evolved to be alloparents.

So we're what's called cooperative breeders, which is to say we participate in collective care of offspring, which is very adaptive because human babies are so uniquely difficult to raise.

We require so much intensive care, and it's too much for any one person to provide all of the round-the-clock care.

So we help each other out with parenting and caregiving.

But the extent to which dads play a role is something that varies based on societal context.

You'd be caring for them.

You'd probably be sharing a sleeping surface with them.

You'd be diapering them.

You'd be feeding them.
