So there's a breakdown on both sides of what it means to be a proper Greek.

The boulder is so large that all of the men could not move it.

They can only get out if Polyphemus himself somehow removes it.

But Polyphemus has said he's going to eat them all, and that's that.

So Odysseus uses his cunning.

and blinds that single eye of Polyphemus as he sleeps.

He's been made drunk by this powerful wine, and he's blinded by a huge stake.

Then Odysseus and his crew get to the sheep, which are at the back of the cave, and they hang from the bottom of the sheep.

And as he counts them out and puts them out to pasture, wondering what on earth's happened in his blinded state,

the men are able to be free.

Now, that should be the end of the story.

A clever trick to get out of pretty hot water.
