So Troy falls, the Trojans lose.

One of the Trojans ends up heading over to Italy and founds the Roman race.

So the Romans believe they were from the Trojans.

but as for the greeks they've won they get their booty which is both uh material wealth and people concubines they head back home to the different parts of greece or the greek-speaking world and that should be that but for odysseus and his crew of maybe 500 600 men in the 12 ships he brought things go wrong pretty early

They stop at a place where the Kekonians live.

They instantly raid the place, steal the women, steal the property, and they actually lose a battle.

So the first thing they do is basically abuse another part of the ancient world.

They're then cast onto a different island, and there they meet huge giants who are cannibalistic.

They're the Lystrigonians, and that's just a straightforward disaster, and they flee.

But the really interesting place they go to in these early wanderings is the place of the lotus eaters, the Lortofagoi.

And this is a community which has found there's a certain flower you can eat.

And if you eat the flower, you lose all longing for the things that gave your life meaning.

You lose a longing for your true home, for your family.

You just tap out.

And it's a land of addicts who've given up on what orientated their life.

And Odysseus sees this.

Although some of his men become lost to this life, he sees that there's a dark addiction at work here, and his crew need to be re-motivated by returning to what ultimately orientates you in life, namely family and homeland.

So they keep going onwards.
