Es ist wiederum über einen Kilometer lang. Ein riesiges Unternehmen.
In the traditional look, you know, those kinds of drawings that people make where it's a nice, like, uh, Tom Sawyer kind of raft and the heads floating along and some people were poling along. Totally wouldn't work. I had a person who joined one of my tours that was a nautical engineer. And after the trip, he was like, let me do some math here.
And he looked at it and he made this wonderful Excel chart for me, showing that, you know, even the... And for Great Courses doing this new Olmec thing, I called him back up. I told my director about it and he was like, well, let's give Michael a call. And so we really sat down for a couple weeks and picked Michael's brain about like, well, okay, how would you do it? And he's come up with this interesting, there is a... Seine erste Idee war, was, wenn wir nur große Lagen um uns herum schlagen, aber sie waren nicht horizontal, sie waren vertikal. Also hast du wirklich das Wasserverweigerungsprinzip genommen. Wie wenn du es in Lagen schlägst, dass... Die waren vertikal. Es konnte nicht genug in den Wasser gedrückt werden. So wie das Archimedes-Prinzip. An dieser Zeit nannten wir es einen Olmeck-Bobber.
So konnte es sich über die Straße drehen. Aber als er darüber nachgedacht hat, konnte es so aus dem Boden fliegen. Wir sollten auch einen Boden drauflegen. But it's a river, so you can only go so deep. It's not going all the way up to San Lorenzo. There are tight turns and there are shallow spots.
So harder and also all of this stuff is once again academic because yeah, maybe they could get it to the river and float it, but they still had to get it off the volcano to the river and then from the river to the top of the pyramid or the platform in San Lorenzo. So Close enough is only good in hand grenades, right?
I mean, you know, I guess I'll give it a 1% chance, but I feel like we've done... a lot of good archaeology there. I mean, the context of these things ist ziemlich solid. Nicht nur im Kontext der Olmec selbst, die in diesem Schwamm liegen, sondern wir haben alle in Mesoamerika. Es gibt Dinge, die älter sind als die Olmec. Und sie sind alle in, glaube ich, einer ziemlich logischen Narrative.
Aber man kann die Dinge in dem Kontext der Olmec
I guess anything is possible, but where would that culture... Until you can find a culture that that could have come from, that's just completely theoretical. And at some point we need to narrow our focus or we're just unproductive. We can't just change rainbows all day. You know what I'm saying. The trick in archaeology is create testable hypotheses. Yes, there are many hypotheses.
Maybe it is 10,000 years old. Maybe they did get it from somewhere else. But how do we approach that topic? How do we investigate? How do we research that possibility?
Ich meine, in meiner persönlichen Erfahrung, ich fühle mich ziemlich sicher, dass es nicht, als du die Frage gestellt hast, ich denke nicht, dass es 5.000 Jahre älter ist, als ich es denke. Natürlich denke ich, was ich denke.

Und die Olmec hat sie von irgendwo anders gebracht. Ist das... Verstehe ich deine Frage richtig? Nein, ich meine, dass es ein... Oder sie waren da und die Leute sind aufgewacht und sie gefunden haben. Ja, eine oder die andere.
Na gut, in dem Fall, nehmen wir San Lorenzo. Wir haben zehn Hände. Sie sind entweder noch auf der Plattform oder... Sie sind durch Erosion auf der Seite der Plattform gelaufen. Aber die Plattform ist 10 Meter lang und viele dieser Sachen sind sehr tief verbrannt. Wie der Ort, den wir den Red Palace nennen, ist eigentlich vier oder fünf Meter unter der aktuellen Oberfläche.
In the soil. It's from a stratigraphic layer in the context of these excavations that have a whole other artifact assemblage in that same level. So it was moved. If it was older, it would have had to be moved from its original context into a stratigraphic layer that dates between 1200 and 1000 B.C.
Well, there are layers below that that are more like 1600, 1800. So we have a stratigraphic layer a phases of that big massive platform i talked about being built in phases and each one of those phases though you know the smaller version of the platform had a a cap Und in dem enthalten war der Trash des Tages. Und dann ist dieser Art von Ceramics einen Fuß und einen halben Meter unter dem. Und es gibt eine Fläche, die sie unterscheidet.
