What we saw at that point was a profound impact of those multiple sources of deprivation.
The levels of memory were very limited, their ability to regulate their thought would be very limited, their language was very limited.
But by the age of six, because of course we followed these children up at six and eleven and fifteen, at the age of six we saw a quite startling pattern of recovery.

I think it really highlights the plasticity of the brain during those early years and the power of a normal, loving, normal social environment for children to transform even at the very neurobiological level.
Having said that...
