It's so exciting.

And I actually love this because you think of archaeology and you think of archaeology like it's digging up stones in the ground.

But actually, you can do an archaeology of these poems as well.

And that's really amazing.

So you can think about, OK, well, yes, what we've got is looking at kind of that eighth to sixth centuries BCE.

But behind them, standing behind them, there are centuries of oral tradition there.

that, yes, as you say, go back to the Late Bronze Age.

So one of my favourite sort of clues, sort of almost fingerprints that we can find within the poems of the fact that they do look back to a Late Bronze Age world.

And by the way, when I say Late Bronze Age, I'm talking about kind of the period from about 1700 to 1200 BCE.

But those kinds of origins, we can see a fingerprint in the poems because there are some words that the poet uses.

There actually aren't words that they would have been using at the time when they were written down.

So one great one is the example of what Agamemnon gets called.

King of Mycenae.

Exactly.

Mycenae, rich in gold.

And he gets called in the Homeric poems, Anax Andron.

Yeah.

That means Lord of Men.

But that word Anax would initially have actually been pronounced Wanax.
