And, you know, there's this idea that there is somehow a double taxation so that, you know, they've paid tax on income and then it's not earned income.

So this is the point.

It's not earned income.

If you look at the wealth in Ireland, about 70% of wealth in Ireland is in property.

And the vast majority of that is in your principal private residence.

So when we sell our principal private residence, we don't pay any capital gains tax on that.

So, you know, I could buy a property for 200,000, sell it for a million and all of that additional earnings is not taxed.

It deepens inequality, exactly.

So, you know, he's making the point like if you, you know, if you look at someone who, I think his example is in 1990, you know, the average house price, someone would have paid 95,000.

Adjust for inflation and 210,000 is what you might expect it to be today.

But actually, it's probably going to be selling for more than 500,000.

So you've got 300,000 accumulated wealth.

You can actually leave that even if you just have one child tax free to that child.

If you were to earn that wealth by income or if you were to earn that wealth by any other purpose, you'd pay much more tax on it.

But the other point here is that like the the Central Bank have done good analysis on on inheritances in Ireland.

Now, the most recent data is from 2020.

only 30% of people received an inheritance based on the most recent data.

And of that, those people who received it, a tiny percentage actually paid any inheritance tax.

And what you see is that those who are already wealthy are far more likely to receive an inheritance and they're much more likely to receive a much bigger inheritance.
