And so yeah, Xanthippus is this example of saving Carthage by the um, you know, restructuring really and reusing uh their forces.
The expedition is lost completely and the consul's been captured.
And so it's a a catastrophic defeat and lives long in Roman memory.
This is a humiliation that the Romans have rarely suffered, and it becomes this incredible moment where the um
the way in which the story and the relationship between Carthage and Rome is is really defined in later years by Regulus, this figure of Regulus and what happens and this defeat.
And all sorts of bad things happen to the Romans because the the who those who survived, the remaining force,
A fleet is sent to pick them up off of the coast of Africa and that fleet is destroyed in a storm on the way back to Sicily.
So the Romans lose massive amounts of soldiers at sea.
Their invasion force is is destroyed and the consul is captured.
Total disaster.
A great success if you're Roman.
Uh an incredible relief relief if you're a Carthaginian.
They have managed to hold the line by, you know, extending themselves enormously.
And both sides are
