But there's a lot of independent cities in this area, too, that we have to think about who are really key to the events I think that happened with Shapur.
So
the city of Hatra.
For example, you know, um Hatra's such an interesting place because it's in the region that we call the Jisera, which is the land between the two rivers, the upper part of the Euphrates and the Tigris.
And it's an independent city.
It has prospered enormously in the second century AD, with trade from East and West and the expansion of Roman interests, but also the s the end of the Parthian period.
The Romans have tried to take it a number of times.
The Parthian, its allied, we think very clearly from
what's inside the city with the Parthians, but it's a multicultural city, uh Arab city of its own in this region.
And it's in just in the period at the end of Ardeshir's life and before or around when Shapur um comes to power that the Sasanians take Hatra.
And this pr you know, instigates really what follows on at the beginning with the wars on the western frontier between the Sasanians and the Romans.

Well, um, yeah, I know absolutely it's so interesting.
I mean, it's hard to know because of course, um, in this period the Romans enter into
Chaos, turmoil.
They almost lose part of their empire as well.
So there's a lot of sort of um structural change across, as we were saying already, across all these different ancient kingdoms.
So at one level, it this is sort of the natural outcome of a long period of rule.
