And so Gordian III and his army invade and um

They

win some successes at the beginning against the Sasanians, but they meet in a big battle in two forty four.

which ends in total disaster for the Romans.

So there's these initial successes in in the upper area of Mesopotamia and then the um the disastrous battle at a place called Mish Mishike or Mysicace.

I think he does, you know, and Ardashir had had successes with against the Romans along the frontiers as well.

But there hadn't been that sort of massive victory.

And also up until um two thirty-five, we have the Severn Dynasty ruling Rome.

And it's really they they put up a pretty good

front.

And of course they're, you know, part of the Severn Dynasty at the the Y um Julia Domina and the the female line of the Severn Dynasty are from Syria.

So they're local, they're very much in interested in the protection of the Syrian frontiers and things like that.

And so there I think is a very concerted effort perhaps to to hold the line a little bit with Ardashir.

And you know, there's obviously they must have known.

There was new things happening on the frontier.

And we know that they do because Cassius Dio tells us when he is um writing in that sort of 230s, 235s about the rise of the Sasanians.

So we have a historian of the Romans sort of mentioning a new power on their eastern frontier.

So we have um, yeah, Shapur comes to meet Gordian.

Army in um 244 at Michike, and it's a complete wipeout.

They um destroy the Roman army and also though kill the emperor.
