So I am board certified in nephrology.
So I'm a kidney doctor and a high blood pressure doctor.
And I'm seeing many patients come in with overwhelming stress, with uncontrolled high blood pressure for a multitude of reasons, but one that many people aren't addressing is that when you're living in a society with increased stress, it can increase high blood pressure.
And specifically, specifically, we have data to support that discrimination, systemic racism,
and public humiliation are linked to poor cardiovascular outcomes.
Even the American Heart Association has come out and recognized it.
That would be public humiliation when someone, for example, is at a UFC fight and they refer to the former first lady as a man when they misgender her.
That's public humiliation.
And the thing about humiliation, it is meant to cause shame, right?
And because it occurs in public, the expectation is for other people in public
to come to one's defense.
But going back to the UFC fight, Michelle Obama was misgendered.
And what happened?
The crowd laughed, Trump smirked, and Joe Rogan went on the Beyonce mute challenge.
No one of power came to her defense.
And then afterwards, even Stephen A. Smith was talking about what a great event it was.
And at least initially, initially, he did not come out to
immediately protect her.
And so one of the studies with public humiliation, and I love science, they literally had these different factors to show what humiliation was and how it showed up.
So they had these measurable objectives, be it cortisol, blood pressure, and they looked at arterial flow.
