So part of the work I did in, in researching this book was like, you know, I went and worked at a crematorium.
I went and cremated people.

But you know, that, you know, and you think, okay, these people have seen everything, right?
They cannot possibly be freaked out by death.
But it was still a very challenging day, any day we had to cremate a child.
Or any day that the child coming in was the same age as someone's son or daughter.
Right?
Like that...
Or when, you know, they were asked to open the coffin.
They never really usually open coffins at crematoriums in Victoria, and all of a sudden they were asked to look upon the dead person, and that was really challenging for them.
I worry that because we don't think about death, we don't think about the people who will look after us when we die.
And they're often paid really terribly, they're not supported, they're not giving mental health support and counselling.
And they're, for that reason, their occupational health and safety, like,
the work cover claims are extraordinarily high.
Yeah.
Like there's some statistics that suggest that the funeral industry has a higher work cover claim rate than the mining industry does.
Whoa.
And partially it is emotional and psychological distress.
