And all of those kind of voyeuristic, true crime, call of duty, violent zombies, they're not the death that'll happen to me and my loved ones.
That's over there.
That's someone else's death.
Um, there's a great anthropologist writing in the 1950s, and he had this theory that what we were experiencing is the pornography of death.
Right, which is that we do talk about death, but only, like, in the private arena.
And so in the same way that, like, sex is taboo, and no one wants to talk about sex in public, but you have this kind of private thing that you can do over here, which is pornography.
He said the same thing's going on with death, right?
And obviously what we've seen in recent years is kind of more sex positivity and education and people talking about it, and it has been normalized, it is a biological process, there is more kind of support.
Hopefully what we're also seeing is the same thing with death, right?
It's no longer just this kind of somewhat shameful, somewhat voyeuristic thing that you consume, right?
These kind of, you know, extreme examples.
It's more normalised and there's more education about it.
But I think we've got a long way to go with death.
You know, we have, for example, sex ed in primary schools and high schools.
We don't have death education.
And I see no reason not to.
As much as, you know, most of the time we talk about children and death, it's the adults who are freaked out by that.
The kids are fine.
The kids...
The kids have questions and the kids can deal with the reality of it.
