So going to the police in the UK, they chose not to believe me.
They decided that they were going to put me on the stand, get me to tell my story, and then they were going to charge me with perjury, contempt of court, lying under oath, all manner of delightful things.
Um...
But I wasn't the one doing that.
I was the only one in that room telling the truth.
And I didn't get a chance to say anything because he made a plea bargain.
And the judge said, you've pled not guilty to your daughter, Jennifer Haynes, so I find you not guilty.
which validated dad.
And so after we came back from the trial in 1997, we fell apart.
We really fell apart because we'd just been declared liars by the UK.
The 2019 trial was about the unknown child and protecting the unknown child.
It was never about us.
