The highest demand for electricity recorded in Kenya, it was about 2440.

It could appear like there is, we have more than we need, like we have excess capacity.

But the truth is, we have functional deficits.

What looks like way more than Kenya needs is actually supported by sources like Entropower, and you know what's happening with climate change and droughts, what that is doing to water volumes.

The other one is supported by wind and solar, which is not always available, especially during peak hours.

So yes, our installed capacity is way than enough, but not all of it is functional.

So in Kenya, what we have is a functional deficit.

And that brings us to the energy sources that we have.

Geothermal is the biggest source of energy in Kenya, providing about more than 50% of the requirements.

followed by hydropower that supplies about 30 to 35.

It's been historically dominant, but now because of the climate issues and the fluctuations, it's becoming less and less reliable.

The other sources include wind and solar, which I already mentioned, supplying between 10 to 15 percent, and fossil fuel, less than 10 percent.

Usually the fossil fuel is actually used as backup because it's quite expensive to run.

So looking at that, you know that energy drives growth, energy drives development.

Unless you can have enough energy, you cannot fuel your manufacturing, your education is going to suffer, your job creation.

So energy is at the core of development.

Kenya is ahead in terms of technology and expertise.

And honestly, I think we are ripe even to start exporting this expertise to neighboring countries.

Kenya is well positioned to be a leader.

because it has experience, it has expertise, and what Kenya lacks is actually the financing to explore.
