Well, they vary tremendously.
In this country, there are some areas where neutering rates are above 98%, some more affluent areas of cities.
The Isle of Wight, the neutering rate is reputed to be very high and kittens actually have to be imported sometimes to satisfy demand there.
But in less affluent areas and in cities and in the countryside, it's almost definitely lower.
So there are kittens born that will never find homes.
That's right.
I mean, it's essentially a change in our ethical approach to dealing with cats.
A hundred years ago, a female cat would have a litter and if it looked as if there were going to be no homes for the litter, the kittens were put in a bag and they were drowned.
And we don't do that sort of thing anymore.
And so...
kittens continue to grow to the point where decisions have to be made about whether they're actually ever going to find anywhere to live.
