But I think we've got to bring those perspectives together into coherent policy, I think that's what's been challenging but massively rewarding.

So having ideas that you've then seen taken on board and actually put into practice has been brilliant.

Oh god, yeah.

I mean I you know, the rising demand, the shortage of workforce

underemployed GPs, you know, uh we raised it as early as we could in like August twenty twenty three, but

The problem is it when you're saying your truth but people aren't listening or they're not believing

And then nothing changes.

That's enormously frustrating.

Or when your counterparts in government say, Yeah, we agree.

We'd love to do this too, but we don't have the budget.

And I think I underestimated the frustrations that some of my NHS England and D H counterparts had.

And I gave them a pretty tough time the first couple of years.

And then the penny dropped a bit more we went through the comprehensive spending review of Treasury and and

the autumn statement and we started to understand and see more about how things worked and w we worked to get some expert negotiation

in from civil servants who'd worked in the both the Department of Health and the Treasury to give us

That little bit of guidance around how these things work.

And that was really eye-opening about how frustrating it is.

It's not simply about making a brilliant argument in case for it.
