The Chinese, of course, can make a decision and press go, and they move very fast.
One person spoke about how EVs and self-driving cars, the guy on Google, David Sneddon is his name, he'd been in China, and he said he met a company making self-driving cars, and at the moment they go at 15 kilometres per hour.
They said within three months we'll have that up to 50 kilometres per hour.
You can imagine the autonomous transport.
And you're right, though, the regulatory framework has to change as well.
Europe makes great discoveries, Pat.
Everybody agrees on this.
We make the great scientific breakthroughs, but don't translate them effectively into products and services.
That's where the gap has been.
So can the ERC and the European Union help speed that up as well?
Endless form-filling and bureaucracy.
This is a mission.
The European Union says the next seven-year framework programme has to be about competitiveness.
How do we make Europe more competitive?
And for the ERC, it's investing in the base of nuts and bolts of this, really, is the idea.
And Research Ireland deserve a shout-out, Pat.
