And so there's several who talk about it.

you know, we'd have a big research center that looks at homelessness.

And so we hire people and we ask them sort of, you know, questions about like what got them interested in us.

How many young people, how many, many young people talk about their own experience?

It's shocking, you know, and it's like, well, when I was in college, when I was 17, when I was 24, you know, I lived in my car, I lived in a garage, I went from house to house.

You know, people like to blame people for their own problems because it's like the American way.

If you pull yourself up from your bootstraps, if you don't do it, it's your fault.

And, you know, in this country, we still treat mental health and substance use problems like you're possessed by the devil.

And I always say to people, like, if you go back to Middle Ages, people thought people with epilepsy were possessed by the devil.

And when I say that in rooms, people sort of giggle and laugh because they're like, that's ridiculous, right?

But the truth is today we treat people struggling with mental health and substance use problems as if they were possessed by the devil.

The other thing is lots of people struggle with mental health and substance use problems, right?

And I have this view that one of the reasons people are so upset by this and so angry at people experiencing homelessness is actually because perhaps they have experience with a loved one who's suffered and they feel how difficult it is.

These problems interfere with social functioning.

They're really painful for family members.

They're really painful, painful problems.

And so there's part of it that I think is like people are like,

putting their own experience without putting the broader framework of what it would take to end it.

Or if you have lots and lots of money and lots and lots of resources, you can deal with it quietly.
