Well yes, in the very literal sense that you cannot have an alliance if one alliance member threatens the territorial integrity of another.

And takes it over.

Same true about Canada as well.

Or at least risks doing that or threatens to do that, right?

So I I think she is right in that regard.

If the US was to take that action, that would be the end of NATO as we know it.

I don't think it would be the end of NATO in the sense that Europeans would no longer have a defense.

Alliance, I can very well imagine that especially under those circumstances, you would very quickly come up with a different kind of constellation, you know, perhaps dusting off the old uh West European Union or something like that, to have a different kind of treaty framework that would very likely encompass all the states that currently make up European NATO.

But the real operational difficulty for NATO is that the alliance has been constructed over the last several decades around the assumption of the US wanting to be there for Europe.

And I mean, we've of course discussed it before, but the US provides a lot of capabilities that are not even just hardware capabilities, but a lot of leadership capabilities, war plans and so on that are all structured around the assumption that the US is going to be there.

And I mean, Europeans don't like to talk about it, but I know that there are some discussions around what would happen if the US no longer provides those functions.

But I think that's going to be the real difficulty because um

You of course don't want to hasten a US withdrawal in that regard, but at the same time you would need to exercise how you operate without the US.

And that of course then becomes very visible.

So some of these conversations are being done in a very low-key way because of course you need to prepare.

But I think that would, in a way, be the biggest risk and as Gallup so kindly put it, as the biggest graduation ceremony.

You know, are the Europeans up to providing that kind of military leadership?

Without the US present.
