I mean, there's a very, very kind of like continued professional circuit.
And there is, right?
There is a connecting point between burlesque and the striptease.
And that's very much, especially the American kind of burlesque style.
The idea of the tease is in there.
But the history of it really does kind of show how we've gotten to this point where we're
we think about those as two different things, even though they're intertwined.
And actually the amazing Joe Boobs Weldon, who's based in New York and was very, very much like responsible part of this neo burlesque revival around New York city in the nineties to present.
She's like,
The strip, the burlesque, the sex work, it's always intertwined.
They always exist.
You can't take them away from each other.
And so it's kind of like that Venn diagram, right?
You might be a little bit more over here, but you're still citing what's here in the center point right here.
And this idea of the citational, I think, is very integral to the idea of burlesque.
But if we go back to that kind of beginning point of it, burlesque has its origins in Europe and specifically in the London theaters and then the Parisian theaters.
