For me, leadership, and that comes with responsibility.
And if I want to be a better leader, I have to stop denying my responsibility.
And responsibility, not in a blame or fault way, but on the cause way, on the cause.
Some people say, and I've got kids in their 20s and 30s, some people say, oh, I'm not responsible for my 25-year-old son.
My answer is, well, I am.
in the way that I can be.
I want to be responsible for them in the fact that I want to be a positive force in their life.
And whenever I deny responsibility, I don't learn anything.
Whenever I assume responsibility, I learn something and I have more power in my life and more effectiveness.
It's great because I love this question and I give it to talks to neurosurgery departments because I can write a message in a bottle and send it back.
It really is about outcomes.
I mean, you're in a performance-based profession.
You've chosen something very challenging that has, in some respects, it's a very unfriendly learning environment.
And, um, and you're going to have desirable outcomes and undesirable outcomes.
Do the best job that you can analyze when things go wrong and continually focus on getting better and don't judge yourself by your outcomes.
