So the way we measure the depth of sleep, the way we measure those stages is with brain waves.
We have to measure your brain waves to see which one of those stages you're in.
It's almost impossible to get brain waves from your finger, right?
So what we have to do is we have to take the data that we can get from your finger and guesstimate what it would look like as a sleep stage.
That's where lots and lots of variability come in.
So you said to me, for the last two decades, Michael, I think I've gotten, what did you say, 30 minutes of deep sleep.
So here's what I would tell you is, in all likelihood, you're getting a lot more.
However, the tracker is not able to pick it up.
So the question now becomes, are these trackers worth anything?
Are they any good?
I would say yes.
And let me explain why.
Because here's the thing is number one, nobody should look at their tracker every day.
That's the surefire way to drive yourself insane.
Okay.
Once a week, once a week is when you should look at it.
And
I don't give a shit how much each specific stage is.
I'm looking for trends that change over time.
So as an example, if you get 30 minutes of deep sleep every night, I think that's great.
