That happens in children just like it does in adults.
They get problems with hypervigilance, like startle response, difficulty concentrating, difficulty sleeping.
The main difference is maybe they're developmentally manifested differently.
Like maybe a child's not going to speak about things like an adult would.
You have to know how to talk with them.
The reminders may be different kinds of things than an adult because children are smaller and bigger things would frighten them that don't frighten adults.
Things kind of develop obvious developmental things like that.
But it looks pretty much the same.
Not talking about the trauma is a bad thing.
Let the child know that they're there to talk when they're ready to talk.
You bring it up, but you don't have to push it.
You know, if the child's not ready to talk, then back off.
And the child gets the message that you have their back, you're there if they need them, and
You know, do that off and on.
You know, just let the child remember that you are there to talk about it.
When you've gone through a trauma, you kind of feel like the world abandoned you a little bit.
People just need to know that the loved ones still have their back and it can just be supportive.
I wrote a whole book, a parent guide for that, too.
They'll Never Be the Same.
It's a parent guide for kids with PTSD.
