No, I haven't.
No.
Oh, God.
So two words, repetition, right?
Repeating and then compulsion, something you don't have control over.
It's a compulsion.
And this theory that has been so true in myself and in my work, and there's research to back this up, but
It's that you are seeking out partners that match your childhood relational trauma or your childhood unfinished business is another way to say it.
And what we do, unconsciously, of course, we seek these people out because we go, okay, if I can recreate a dynamic that was so painful to me in my childhood, but I can recreate it now, and then this time I'll get a different result.
And for a lot of people, this could look like they grew up, they had the father that wasn't present, that wasn't really curious about them, wasn't emotionally available, wasn't attuned.
So in their adult dating life, they're seeking out the unavailable man, the avoidantly attached man, and they're going, if I can just get this man to love me, then it's going to mean that I'm finally enough.
I'm enough.
And it's going to make up for all of that past relational trauma that I experienced.
And it'll heal those wounds.
And then this is why when that doesn't happen, because guess what, right?
It never works out.
It's like insanity doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting a different result.
So in your repetition compulsion, that relationship ends, that avoidant man didn't choose you.
And it feels like you're dying.
The breakup is so painful.
