I know there's so many people that relate to that story.
And yeah, surviving domestic violence and getting out of it, there is this process of unlearning the lies that you were told that were used to control and manipulate you, frankly, right?
And...
Really, when I think about all relational trauma, if we look at the core, that's such a key part of it.
We have to unlearn the lies that we started to believe about ourselves.
Because if you look at those lies, they were designed to keep you in the relationship.
And when you're a child or even in a domestic violence dynamic, you feel like, oh, it's like getting out of that relationship.
It's like cutting off a limb.
You're so attached.
And especially as children, right?
We need our parents for survival.
We need them for survival.
So we have to believe whatever we're required to believe about ourselves so that that relationship can be maintained because we need it.
So if I have to believe, well, I'm not enough.
I'm not that important.
