And we ended up being the last group of MSF doctors.

I was the doctor.

There was a nurse.

There were a couple of other people.

And we were the last ones there because the home base in Paris said –

no need here anymore.

We need to shut down.

So I'd gone out thinking I was going to be, you know, save the world.

There was a program back then called ER where there was a young doctor called Carter.

And I used to love that program.

And he was out doing the similar sort of thing.

And, you know, I've got to be honest, there was a little bit of

A bit of romance about it.

But the truth was exactly the opposite.

We were the downsizers.

We were like the management consultants of MSF.

We needed to close this thing.

And so we ended up leaving after I'd been there for six months.

And it was a hugely emotional experience, sort of leaving a town of 30,000 people with no health care.

And I can remember distinctly going because, you know, no plans going in and out.
