Well, it's a definition which comes from something called the NOVA food classification.
And this arose from research looking at changing diets in South America, moving away from the traditional diets of, say, rice and beans, towards more bought foods out of supermarkets, which tended to be really gradations of...
the food categories that people were eating, but moving further and further away from what the food writer Michael Pollan would call food that your grandmother would recognize as food.
And yogurt would probably fit with that, unsweetened yogurt.
No, and the definition would say that there are five or more ingredients, substances extracted from foods, processing of food components, food additives such as colours, flavours, non-sugar sweeteners, processing aids.
A lot of it's cheap, empty calories, often with high degrees of sweetness and fat, which tend to have an addictive quality.
Nobody's quite sure what causes that.
It's probably a brain effect as well as a blood sugar effect.
But sweet or savory snacks, carbonated drinks, ice cream, chocolate, confectionery in general...
