The young guard tilted his head.

Benjamin glanced toward the hallway where Jeeves had disappeared, then stepped aside and let the door swing shut behind them.

His caution was losing badly to curiosity.

Dr. Thorne rushed to the machine and opened the input door.

He sacrificed his favorite shirt to the machine and turned the arrow to very fine.

With a twist of the key, the gears clicked and the machine whirred to life.

Benjamin hesitated by the door.

Thorne reluctantly removed his watch and gestured for Benjamin to take it.

He stared at it for a moment before sliding it onto his wrist.

Thorne grinned as he slid his finger over the watch face until he reached the emotion page.

He kept his eyes on Benjamin as he clicked the yellow smiley face.

Benjamin's eyes lit up and his lips curved into the biggest smile Dr. Thorne had ever seen on him.
