Matariki transcends that.

Governments come and go.

Politicians come and go.

All of these issues come and go.

But those stars will continue to rise every single year as a marker of unity, the fact that we are diverse, but let's celebrate our diversity because it's not a weakness, it's a strength.

And in those moments we stop, we reflect on the year, and we check in.

And that doesn't have to be at a big public ceremony.

We just get around as a whānau and ask, how have you been?

What's happening in your life?

What have I missed?

What do you need from me?

Yeah, totally.

We don't do that because we're just on to the next thing and the next thing.
