We have to bust the stigma of shame.
Our children, your children, the children I work with every day, they have a right to this world.
They belong here and they are special.
And it's these out-of-the-box children that are going to be our future leaders.
And we have to prepare the world for them.
But not just that, we have to be proud of them.
So they throw tantrums in the grocery store and throw themselves on the floor.
So what?
Oh, absolutely.
So I'm a psychologist and a pediatric neuropsychologist, and I'm also an author.
I wrote a book for parents.
And primarily, I have a private practice in Los Angeles, California.
My life work has been to create diagnostic and an assessment environment that's warm and supportive.
And I came to realize that understanding that the child is not a single unit.
It comes with it.
He or she comes with a village of parents and families.
And there's repercussions in the outer community anytime a child is singled out with a difference.
So I coined the word or I think I coined the word atypical child because I didn't like what was out there, special needs or other terms, because in a sense, we're all atypical.
And children who do not conform to the typical expectations is basically all of us.
Some conform less than others.
