What did they say you They said we were upcoding that we were we were taking the the charts and we were charging too high we were using the wrong code.
Now there's over sixty nine thousand possible codes you can p choose from in the b in the billing and coding world.
And they said on five of them, we chose the wrong chart with the wrong code.
And these patients I didn't even see.
We had we had nurse practitioners and PA see them.
I didn't code them.
Uh we had a third party billing company.
I mean, the whole thing was insane.
So we go to trial and I mean, I can't believe I'm I'm here on federal charges go going to trial.
And um the Chief Judge of Maryland writes a ninety three page opinion and basically throws the whole case out and says that the government didn't prove its case, they had no evidence, which they didn't.
Um, they never even had a professional coder look at the charts.
They just had government lawyers look at the charts.
It would be like me, Ian, if I handed you five patient charts and said, here, why don't you pick what code this should be?
What would you say?
I have no idea.
Exactly.
Because that's not what you do for a living.
There's people who do this for a living.
The government never even went to the trouble of having a professional look through the charts to say whether this was accurate or not.
