It doesn't matter what kind of technology, be it an application off the shelf or be it AI technology.
And I think it's always really important to sit down and say, OK, what what can I what do I really want out of this?
And I completely agree.
There's a huge temptation to buy the next new shiny thing, to go to maybe a business forum where you're meeting your peers and colleagues and get swept along by saying, oh, look, I'm investing in AI.
Quite frankly, I think it's incumbent on anybody before you put your hand in your pocket.
You really do need to do some training and understand what are you buying and what are your risks?
But for me, fundamentally, as a CIO, as somebody who's been in this position for many years, you really want to look at your security first.
Are you a secure environment?
Are you going to introduce potentially a tool that will leak or that could expose you to new risks?
And I think that's really important from the outset.
Why are you doing this?
Again, I'll come back because this is my environment.
In May of last year, the government produced guidelines for the public sector, and they actually have a really strong case for coming up with a business.
You must come up with a business case which actually excludes traditional methods before you look at AI.
Why is AI the only solution in this?
There may be more conventional, less risky, less expensive alternatives.
Well, look, have confidence in yourself.
You know, 20 years ago, we didn't have smartphones.
People are actually, even though we all feel we're very change resistant and we actually, in reality, we're actually very good at change.
We do adapt.
