And that's how you get the visibility while still being humble, because it's about the impact, not the output.
What did I do?
What if if you think of a task on a to-do list, I have to finish the deck, I have to create the spreadsheet, I have to send 12 emails, I have to fix the dashboard, right?
It's a to-do list.
The outcome is the impact that it had.
That's more important.
Nobody cares that you did all of these tasks in your to-do list because then it just becomes this contest.
Is my to do list bigger than your to-do list?
Right.
But if you start attaching it to an impact, something with a dollar sign, a percentage sign, a less than sign, a more greater than sign, now I know what to do with this information.
Because if you made something work faster.
If you reduced a friction point, if you increased morale so that productivity is better, if you saved us X number of dollars,
That's really impact.
That is real impact.
Nobody cares that you sent twelve emails.
But if the twelve emails garnered another million dollars, that's important.
Well, I think what they need to do is put some boundaries around it.
So I just had a coaching client today who was just asked to be on two committees and um interview uh the potential new president of their organization.
So the first question I asked is for this interview committee.
